Reliability & Safety

Sun Prairie Utilities recognized for providing reliable & safe electric service

Sun Prairie Utilities was recently honored by the American Public Power Association for providing its customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service. Of the more than 2,000 public power utilities in the nation, Sun Prairie Utilities is one of 84 to earn the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) recognition.

RP3 recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, training and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. Sun Prairie Utilities received the platinum designation, earning 90 points for their accomplishments in the four key discipline areas.

“Sun Prairie Utilities continues to lead by example and we are proud of our utility’s accomplishment,” Rick Wicklund, Utility Manager said. “This honor is a reminder of the high standards we employ and follow on behalf of our customers and community.”

This is the third year that the RP3 designation has been offered. More information and a full list of designees, recognized in three categories, is available at the APPA web site.

Safety For Your Home

Homes today contain many electrical devices. With advances in technology, people are more and more dependent on electronics and electricity. From appliances to computers, entertainment to medical equipment, electronic devices are some of the more costly items in our homes to purchase, or replace.

Sun Prairie Utilities is proud of the safety and reliability of our electric distribution system, but no electricity provider can guarantee zero outages 100 percent of the time. We recommend all customers protect their expensive and sensitive electronics with surge protection. Electric surge can happen with lightning strike or when electric service is re-established after an outage.

Energy & Safety Education
SP Utilities helped the Green Kid Club at Eastside School plant a tree for our TREE POWER program.

At Sun Prairie Utilities, we believe that nothing is as important to the future of the community as our young citizens. We pride ourselves on our commitment to energy and safety education in Sun Prairie.

Whether it's through the classroom or the community, we strive to provide a strong network of information to further educate community members about electric and water subjects and how it relates to customers both young and old.

As part of our ongoing educational efforts, SPU provides educational materials and presentations to schools, service groups and seniors. We also provide teaching units, videos, publications and workshops to interested groups all year long.
